The goal of the Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program (PHBPP) is to reduce the spread of the infection from the mother to her baby at birth.
Hepatitis B is a Class B reportable disease. When a notification is made and it is determined, a woman with hepatitis B is pregnant, case management is started with the Infectious Disease Nurses.
The purpose of case management is to ensure providers are aware of the mother’s status and that the baby then receives the correct protection against Hepatitis B.
